It's a humourous illustration of American Naval soldiers capturing a Nazi submarine. Does anyone know where I might be able to find out what it was used for?Scott Sheppardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01577280561548127306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-38965858880810351562012-11-05T16:24:12.049-05:002012-11-05T16:24:12.049-05:00I LOVE his works!! I saw a piece of his work in the Saturday Evening Post and the signature looks like R Jones.

I just spent 30 min searching for R Jones but it's such a common last name, I couldn't find anything. When I search for the Post, it's mostly about Leyendecker, Rockwell, or Wyeth.

I'm so glad I found your post. I LOVE his composition and the mood of the artworks. They are so beautiful :)Taranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-15655806714605677802009-06-11T23:21:06.754-04:002009-06-11T23:21:06.754-04:00The Fatal Flaw down-shot angle and the colorful Lo...The Fatal Flaw down-shot angle and the colorful Love Is A Waiting Game art are especially nice.Success Girl looks great as well.Steve Fastnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01550271224882245081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-19844044642160184712009-06-11T22:40:47.026-04:002009-06-11T22:40:47.026-04:00and I mean that as praise. It still makes me chuckle and shows both sides of him. I asked him why he never joined the National Cartoonists Society. He thought quite a while before answering. Though so much of his work could be considered cartooning, he said he always felt that he was an illustrator - especially considering the company he kept and the Cooper studio. He has tremendous affection and respect for cartooning - but I don't think he thought of himself as a cartoonist.leifpenghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07232334860061949895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-3498889875334759022009-06-11T12:28:45.179-04:002009-06-11T12:28:45.179-04:00Thanks for the beautiful Jones artwork and info.
...Thanks for the beautiful Jones artwork and info.
Much like Hawley and McGinnis, I think the background in cartooning gives Jones' more realistic work that much more appeal.
S.cartoonretrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00513067522570302084noreply@blogger.com
