His home was filled with family photos,a wonderful kaleidescope and some really crazy siamese cats. His studio was a place of mystery to me. We were not allowed in without him, but always needed to peek at his latest work. I last saw him at my wedding, when he promised to do a painting of the ceremony. Tragically, the demons prevailed, and he died just a few years later. I wish I had known him better.
Betty HearneBetty Hearnenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-51203591272713287872009-09-22T12:00:26.994-04:002009-09-22T12:00:26.994-04:00This is a fitting tribute. My mother was his first wife and I spent a lot of time with my sort of brother John Hearne and sisters Sallee, Annie and Cathy. I was always in awe when I went into the studio as little boy.

I ended up in commercial art myself and now run a design firm right up the road from Dobbs Ferry.

For those who are interested, Jack passed away around 1989david barnumhttp://www.barnumdesign.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-70665794477040435442009-05-16T19:57:00.000-04:002009-05-16T19:57:00.000-04:00Great post! I too was taken by his unusual perspectives,
which made his pictures all the more fascinating. He seemed to be able to convey simple ordinary things with a flourish that gives his art honesty.
Thanks, this series truly made my day.Ron Fortierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13309149554499286208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18907156.post-37023657080972779152008-01-30T11:52:00.000-05:002008-01-30T11:52:00.000-05:00These are beautiful drawings that look deceptively...These are beautiful drawings that look deceptively easy. His linework describes so much about the action of the figure, the construction of the clothing, and all the little touches, like the dented garbage can in the first picture. Jack Hearne was a master of unusual perspectives, which gives an otherwise ordinary subject something special and memorable. Thank you for the personal story, which moves all of us in the business.James Gurneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01870848001990898499noreply@blogger.com
