I'm so impressed and blown away. This guy's stylistic and technical range is insane! Some of those Maclean's covers have a nearly "belgian clean line" look to them. Stuff like that always gives me a heart attack.

Its both inspiring and frustrating to see work like this. Inspiring because, well, its inspiring. Frustrating, though on two counts: one, the reminder of how much great shit there is out there that I have no idea about and need to educate myself on, two: arghhh! I've spent half my life in a career that's eaten up all my time for developing my own drawing. Sucks.

But I loved the illustrations for Winter Dreams (I'm a literature professor, how could I not) and I intend to plug away at my own exercises and self-imposed discipline of two face sketchs a day on my train commute. Maybe I'll make a flikr gallery of my own soon.

Keep up the good work, Leif and I haven't forgotten my promise to send you some scans of 50's/60's era textbook and children's book illustrations the next time I'm home.

Just three more weeks. And then....8 glorious months of sabbatical.Professor Estevezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089916647553501445noreply@blogger.com
