Today is Thanksgiving in Canada and I have a lot to be thankful for.
I'm thankful I was fortunate enough to not be born into poverty. That, in childhood, I was never stricken by terrible ailments like tuberculosis or heart trouble. I'm thankful I didn't have to quit school as a child to work day and night to support my mother and siblings. I try to imagine being married and having a child by age sixteen, and working like mad to support them as well, all the while wishing I had the time and money to go to art school and fulfill my dream to become an artist.
This is what the life of young Albert Dorne was like. "When I was 5 years old [I] made a big decision," wrote Albert Dorne about his life, "I was going to become an artist and make a lot of money."
This week, a look at the incredible life and art of Albert Dorne.
Hey Leif,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your comments of thanks. Happy Thanksgiving!
I look forward to this week if this first image is any indication. I love that lots is going on. Amazing...
This fellow is like the Sergio Aragones of illustration IMHO.
Thanks, thelittleman! One thing Albert Dorne was never shy of was a crowd scene - in fact, I would say he is known for his complex compositions involving many people, each one individual in expression and body language, all working cohesively to create a unified image. Just one aspect of this incredibly accomplished illustrator.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those hands! I'm reminded of an earlier post on Illustration Art.
ReplyDeleteThese illustrators are a constant inspiration. Please keep it up!
Right you are, colin! It was David's other recent post on Dorne that got me thinking it was time to look once again at this master of 20th century illustration.
