The Great Al Hirschfeld

Toby Neighbors has put together another fantastic tribute to a mid-century illustrator - this time its the great Al Hirschfeld. Visit Toby's site, illostribute.com for an extensive biography of Hirschfeld, a nice selection of his art and, of course, a whole series of wonderful 'tribute' pieces by contemporary illustrators!

It's always fun to look "Nina" in his drawings.

Hirschfeld = Pure greatness. There is nobody to compare him to, then, now, or ever.

Life-long Hirschfeld devotee here. Will never be another like him. The man had one of the greatest dream jobs known to humankind.

I have to say that that Elvis piece is probably his biggest miss. I have to assume it's because there wasn't a ton of photo ref' on E around in 1956.

Almost all of those Collier pieces are brand new to my eyes. Huge thanks Leif.

It is wonderful to see these. If you want to see more than 2,500 pieces by Hirschfeld, or look up nearly 10,000 of his works, you should check out www.alhirschfeldfoundation.org
